We begin with the West Coast Premiere of Giovanna d’Arco (Joan of Arc), composed by Maestro Lawrence Golan. This symphonic poem honors the legendary French heroine who defied the odds and led her people to victory, only to be martyred at a young age. But there’s a personal touch here—Golan dedicated this piece to his daughter, Giovanna, making it a deeply heartfelt and moving work. Through sweeping melodies and evocative orchestration, this piece captures Joan’s journey from humble beginnings to sainthood, bringing her story to life through music.

Next, prepare for a wild emotional ride with Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique. Inspired by Frank Abagnale’s real-life con artist escapades and capture in Montpellier, France (as portrayed in the film by Leonardo DiCaprio), this music captures the cat-and-mouse energy of the film. With lively saxophone and vibraphone solos, you’ll hear shades of Henry Mancini and a nod to Williams’ early jazz roots. It’s a playful yet sophisticated way to open the evening.
