YAKIMA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ANNOUNCES WAGE INCREASES FOR MUSICIANS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOUR YEARS
[YAKIMA, WA]–On Thursday, January 29 the Yakima Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors passed their fiscal year 2027 budget, which includes pay raises for Symphony musicians, effective July 1, 2026. Wages increase by between 13% and 27%, depending on the musician's position in the orchestra and percentage of their contract they accept.
This update to musicians’ pay is the direct result of successful fundraising
and development efforts in the past year. As the organization's resources continue to grow, the Symphony will prioritize periodic increases in musician pay to better serve its mission and artistic aspirations.
Music Director Lawrence Golan comments, “It is quite unusual for a city of our size to have a professional symphony orchestra that plays at such a high level. I am so appreciative of all our wonderful musicians and am glad that the organization can thank them through this pay raise. As we continue to increase our revenue, I look forward to continued increases for the orchestra.”
Executive Director Sam McClung states, “I’ve been working with the Board of Directors to make this happen since day one of my tenure because it exemplifies one of my core budgeting philosophies—valuing people. We serve our community through the talent, skill, and preparation of our musicians. When they are compensated well, the Yakima Valley benefits.”
The Yakima Symphony Orchestra enriches, educates, and inspires the Yakima Valley through captivating concerts of classical and popular music.
