YAKIMA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ANNOUNCES RENEWED MISSION STATEMENT

[YAKIMA, WA] – The Yakima Symphony Orchestra has announced a new mission statement – 

 

 

Yakima Symphony Orchestra enriches, educates, and inspires the Yakima Valley through captivating concerts of classical and popular music.

 

 

Sam McClung, Executive Director of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra, states: “Thanks to the intense growth of the orchestra in the past decade in terms of size, quality, number of concerts, and impact on the community, it was time for a change.”

 

 

The Orchestra presents live performances of beloved classics and contemporary music cherished by people all around the world. Recent moving performances include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral,” Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 “The Titan,” and Verdi’s great Requiem, in the unforgettable context of its performance by defiant prisoners in the Nazi concentration camp at Terezín.

 

 

In the coming months, the Yakima Symphony orchestra will perform masterworks, including Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Yakima Symphony Chorus, favorites by Aaron Copland and Johann Strauss Jr., and compositions of noteworthy contemporary composers including, Nancy Ives, Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, and a celebration of hispanic music including <list a few composers>

For more than 50 years, the Yakima Symphony Orchestra has been the premier source of live, professional orchestral music in Central Washington. Founded in 1971 under Music Director Brooke Creswell, and now led by Maestro Lawrence Golan, the Symphony has grown from a community ensemble into a fully professional orchestra recognized among the finest in the Pacific Northwest.
